Pull the Makita 5007MGA out of the box and the first thing you notice is how light it feels for a full-size 7-1/4″ saw. The magnesium components shave weight without sacrificing rigidity — you get 10.6 lbs of precision cutting tool that doesn’t fatigue your arm during long days on the job site.

Cutting Performance

Makita’s 15-amp motor rips through 2×10 framing lumber without bogging down. We ran 200+ feet of cuts through treated lumber, OSB, and hardwood plywood. The blade speed stays consistent under load — a hallmark of a well-engineered motor controller. Max cutting depth at 90° is 2-9/16″, which handles stacked cuts on 2× material with ease.

Bevel cuts are smooth thanks to the positive stops at 0°, 22.5°, and 45°. The detents are firm without being stiff, and the bevel scale is easy to read — a small thing that matters when you’re setting up 50 cuts in a row.

Build Quality

The magnesium shoe, blade guard, and upper blade guard feel solid. After six months of job-site abuse in our long-term test, there’s no wobble in the baseplate and the cam-lock bevel adjustment still operates smoothly. The electric brake stops the blade within 2 seconds of releasing the trigger — an important safety feature we always check.

Dust Management

The integrated dust blower keeps the line of cut clear, which sounds minor until you’ve used a saw without it. There’s also a vacuum port for connecting dust collection, though it’s not always practical on a framing site.
